About Alonso Guzman

Summary:

Past:

Danced for  The Metropolitan Opera House and Ballet Hispanico.

Present:

Dancing for Armitage Gone!, Dardo Galletto Dance, New York Theater Ballet, Deborah Abel Dance Company, and Creating, dancing and directing at Alonso Guzman Danza.

Future:

Keep dancing, teaching and creating until my body just can’t no more for the love of dance.

Childhood:
Native Puerto Rican, raised under the Caribbean culture. He dedicated 10 years of his early life studying martial arts. Tae Kwon Doh under the direction of Guinness World Breaker Fernando Camareno. After 8 years of training, he was promoted Black Belt by South Korean Master and marine of Korea’s Blue Dragon Brigade, Young Soo Doh. Later he expanded his training and started Muay Thai under the direction of Krav Maga Worldwide Instructor Juan Delgado, and Capoeira under the direction of his brother Mestre Pixaim Abada.

After winning numerous gold medals from local and national competitions including one from the US Open Mix Martial Arts 2009, he finally decided to show interest in classical and modern dance. He joined School for the Performing Arts and quickly rose up to become a dancer at the school’s company Dramadanza.

2010:

  • At the age of 17, he moved to New York City after being awarded the Oprah Winfrey Foundation Scholarship and the Olive Tree Foundation Scholarship to study in the Ailey School for 3 years.
